Zoom! Activating Light
Zoom! in-office teeth whitening is one of our patients’ most popular teeth whitening methods because it works faster and more effectively than the at-home methods, and because our dental assistants provide the treatment for you. Let’s answer some of your questions about it.
What is Zoom! Teeth Whitening?
Zoom! is a professional whitening system that uses whitening gel to whiten your teeth and is done in the dentists office.
Zoom! can increase the whiteness of your teeth by up to 8 shades as shown in this ZOOM! Web site chart that compares effectiveness of different methods.
How long is a Zoom! Teeth Whitening Appointment?
The in-office treatment time is 45 minutes for up to 8 shades of whitening. At home trays take 1-2 weeks for up to 6 shades lighter. Strips and paint on gel take between 1 – 4 weeks for up to 4 shades of lightening, while toothpaste takes over 4 weeks for only 1 – 2 shades of whitening.
The in-office process involves putting a whitening gel on your teeth for three periods of 15 minutes each and focusing a special UV light, the Zoom! Activating Light in the picture, directly on your teeth to facilitate the whitening process.

My Teeth Are Sensitive, How Will Zoom! Teeth Whitening Feel?
For many patients Zoom! causes no sensitivity. For those who are sensitive we prescribe Fluoridex toothpaste which is very successful in eliminating sensitivity for most patients, even for patients with very sensitive teeth.
When Will I Need My Next Zoom! Teeth Whitening Appointment?
Everyone’s teeth are different. Some tooth enamels absorb teeth darkening drinks and foods faster than others, so how long your teeth will stay white depends on your teeth, and what you eat and drink, among other things. You can help your teeth stay white by rinsing your mouth after eating or drinking teeth darkening substances, and brushing them within half an hour.
Is Any Special Care Needed After My Zoom! Teeth Whitening?
After the treatment is over, you will go home with a special kit and customized teeth trays which will allow you to maintain your whitening care at home when you’d like to. The box to the right shows the blue teeth tray holder, and two syringes which will last for quite a whole, the turquoise one with whitening gels, and the gray one with teeth desensitizing gels. It’s as simple as putting some of the whitening gel in each of the tooth spots on your customized tray, and putting the clear tooth tray in your mouth for a short period.
